MY CONCEPT OF PEAK PERFORMANCE
Peak
Performanceis a
totally present state of mind when a players complete focus is on executing
and performing his/her shots and strategy at their highest ability level
with an almost unconscious emotional attachment to the score or outcome of a
match.
How I sustain
my Peak Performance (as a tennis player and coach)
I try to
stay present in every point by watching/focusing on the spin of the ball
after it bounces on my side of the court into my contact point on every
shot.
I do not
attach any emotional weight to my bad shots or my opponent’s great shots
I listen
to my emotions if what I am thinking makes me feel good I know I am on the
right road for achieving peak performance. If what I am thinking make me
feel bad this is a signal that I need to change the way I am thinking and
get back on track to a thinking that makes me feel good.
After
each point I use a easy technique I call "cleaning the slate". The concept
involves me going to the back of the fence after each point and using my
hand, I do a quick wiping motion on the windscreen, which symbolizes in my
mind that whatever just happened on the previous point is done, cleaned, and
gone. In this way, I prepare my self to be in the present of the next point.
What I would recommend others who want to be Peak Performers
Committed
practice of your craft. Stay focused on your performance not the outcome.
Peak
performance is supposed to be effortless, if you are struggling, it feels
like you are working to hard, or your emotions do not feel good, this is a
sign that you must change your current thinking or method of practice.

NINE
SUPER FOODS
These
super foods will strengthen your immune system, helping you fight off
diseases, thus increasing your lifespan.
1-
Broccoli
Broccoli contains more vitamin C than most citrus fruits, more calcium than
a glass of milk, more fiber than a slice of whole wheat bread, and a
truckload of antioxidants. Broccoli is a powerful anti-carcinogen, since it
stimulates the body to produce its own cancer-fighting substances. But
broccoli doesn't stop there; it can also help prevent cataracts, heart
disease, arthritis, ulcers, and viruses.
2-
Chamomile
Chamomile is a member of the daisy family, and its blossoms hold healing
properties. Chamomile acts as a muscle relaxant, which helps decrease stress
and tension, and the less stress you have, the lower your chances of having
a stress-induced heart attack. Chamomile also helps detoxify the body by
helping the kidneys clear out waste products.
3- Cranberries
These festive little berries are high in vitamin C, bacteria-fighting
chemicals and the antioxidant quercetin. Cranberries help fight urinary
tract infections, cancer and also help prevent harmful bacteria form
sticking to internal body surfaces.
4- Oily
fish
Oily fish, such as salmon, trout, mackerel, and herring, are all extremely
high in omega-3 fatty acid. These types of fish lower blood cholesterol
levels, and prevent strokes and blood clots.
5-
Lemons
Lemons are rich in vitamin C. When it comes to being healthy, lemons have
your back: not only do they help the body ward off infections, but the
acidic nature of lemon juice also has anti-bacterial properties, which are
excellent for fighting off mouth ulcers and sore throats.
6-
Onions
Onions are high in vitamin C, and in the antioxidants quercetin and sulfur.
Onions help to control many breathing-related diseases, since onions protect
your body from asthma and other inflammatory diseases. But wait, there's
more. Onions also raise the levels of the "good" HDL cholesterol in blood,
and help to protect cells from cancer.
7- Oats
Oats are high in calcium, as well as soluble and insoluble fiber. If you
plan to live forever, you're going to need a killer smile to attract the
opposite sex in your old age. Oats can help, since they prevent teeth from
falling out and help keep bones from breaking as you age. Oats also lower
cholesterol levels, reduce blood pressure and fight colon cancer.
8- Tomatoes
Tomatoes contain the antioxidant lycopene. Tomatoes strengthen the immune
system, slow the progress of degenerative diseases and reduce the risk of
certain cancers, especially prostate, lung and stomach cancers.
9- Green tea
It just doesn't get much better than this. This ancient Asian tea is full of
the antioxidants catechins and polyphenols, as well as vitamins A, C and E.
Green tea may well be stronger than the samurai sword, since it prevents the
oxidation of cells, which can lead to cancer, fortifies the immune system
and thins the blood to combat heart disease.

I recently answered a
question from my Linked-In network on "Who's an Innovator?" The
question cited well-known industry revolutionaries like Edison, Steve Jobs,
Bill Gates and others. At the risk of answering out-of-bounds, I
thought I should mention the person I believe has done more for furthering
creative thinking in recent times, who's also my admired teacher.
Here's my answer:
"Dr.
Edward de Bono is the most innovative individual of all time for helping
generations become aware that innovation does not happen at the Eureka
moment but it's the result of exercising Possibility Thinking. When
we focus on possibility we start asking questions like "what if?" "why not?"
"what can be?" and depart from the established answers.
Dr. de Bono is innovative
because his philosophical and scientific posture ruffles the feathers of
those who choose to believe that creative and innovative people are born
that way. He sustains that everyone can learn to be creative by
sharpening their thinking skills in a systematic, purposeful way.
There's nothing deterministic about the way new ideas are generated: the
brain is a dynamic system that constantly creates connections. Storing
knowledge does not make anyone more creative; it's the connections made with
the existing knowledge that determine how creative an idea can be. Most
importantly, it's the execution of the ideato create new value(valuefacturing) that defines "innovation."
He promoted the concept
that thinking is a skill that deserves as much training as any other
discipline, but it does not get much attention in any particular curriculum
at any level of education. Critical Thinking (analysis) gets all the
attention, but Creative Thinking (possibility, alternatives, new ideas)
is considered the specialty of dreamers and artists. His sums it up by
saying that "we can analyze the past but we need to design the future."
The operational thinking
required to design something, whatever it is, does not benefit from using
analytical tools, which might be useful to understand "what is," but it will
not serve any purpose creating "what can be," "what could be" and "what will
be." Furthermore, at some point, an Eureka moment will be required to get
unstuck or to escape the prescribed, accepted solutions. This can be
achieved by provoking new ideas through humor, the absurd, reversal,
distortion and other non-analytical processes without which innovation will
not have much chance to be realized.
Ultimately, the purpose
of creative thinking is to add value. David Ogilvy would agree with Dr.
de Bono, as he famously stated when talking about the results of his
legendary advertising campaigns: "If it doesn't sell, it's not creative."
Dr. de Bono's contribution
to Humanity is incalculable, as it will spawn millions of versatile,
situational, creative thinkers who will be able to make possible that
original ideas are executed -- the trademark of innovative people."
The cause just needs committed teachers and evangelists of Thinking with
"capital T." Let's get on with it. The future of the world
depends on it.

"I believe that the
ultimate goal of an opera singer is to create a legacy."
"In truth, it's the importance of the music
itself, and of the work of the composer, that is the creative gift, while
the role of the singer is relegated to that of l'umile ancella, the
humble handmaid. From that perspective, singers are not artists themselves
but merely interpreters of art. A few, however, can transcend craft
and the efficient employment of a natural skill by honing that skill to
the highest level."
"Stepping into a role should be like getting into
a car: you no longer have to be conscious of how to drive at this point,
but only of where you're going. I expect it's the same kind of
experience for an athlete - in that case, it's the concept of going
into the zone. There is a kind of suspension of thinking
involved, as though there is so much inspiration and ease that it feels as
if you're channeling the music rather than singing it. Reaching that
place allows me, in a sense, to step out of the music's way and leave
my mind free to discover new shadings in the role that I might have
missed in the past."

Dorothy Potter is a singer/songwriter from New York City (and a
good friend of mine).
She brings the soul of Harlem to the world with a powerful, crying,
smoky voice that people liken to Stevie Nicks or Norah Jones. Dorothy
has performed with Philip Glass, Pete Seeger, Papo Gely (Puerto Rico),
Tico Da Costa (Brazil), Lucia Pulido and Fiesta de Tambores
(Colombia), and her own Latin band, Azuleja. She also performs
with Aaron Gilmartin in their
GilmartinPotter band.
Her latest CDs make wonderful Holiday Gifts for your and your friends.
I met
Rose Bilal in Tampa, FL, back in 1992, when I was associated
with Stageworks, a theatre company that helped me become a playwright.
She is a remarkable woman who lives a remarkable life. She was
born in Newark, NJ and lived in Philadelphia for many years.
Through the 60's, she was at the heart at the music scene. She
worked with some of the greats: The O'Jays, The Delphonics, Wilson
Pickett, Chubby Checker, and Gladys Knight & The Pips. Rose's
also an actor, visual artist, author and motivational speaker.
She has written her biography "Don't Blame The Road." In
2004, she founded Jazztorian, Inc., a non-profit organization
dedicated to preserving classic jazz as a rare and valuable American
treasure.
