The Rome International Sircle 2017 - "Design Your Breakthrough: Deeper Understanding precedes Meaningful Action"

  • The Rome International Sircle will take place in Rome, Italy, from Friday, October 6th through Sunday, October 8th.  
  • The venue for the event will be the private Villa Il Cardinale, a 16th century property located 8 km north of Rome.  
  • The program includes a Leaders Retreat focused on "Designing Your Personal Breakthrough" and a Master Class by Richard Saul Wurman, the legendary founder of the TED Conferences on "Deeper Understanding precedes Meaningful Action." 
  • The Sircle name stands for SIR (the confluence of Stories, Ideas and Relationships), created and organized by SIR - Salum International Resources.  The Rome International Sircle follows previous editions in Ancona, Italy and Zurich, Switzerland, as well as past leadership workshops in Charlotte, NC, USA.  In April 2010, TheSircle featured Richard Saul Wurman in Charlotte, NC at The Ritz Carlton for a 2-day lecture series.  

The Leaders Retreat Agenda includes:

Registration Information:

 
  1. Fee per person: Early Bird USD 6,000 before June 30th - Late Registration USD 7,000.  Cancellations before June 30th: Refund of 50% of the Fee.  
  2. Minimum participants: 8 - Maximum: 14.  
  3. All Room & Board accommodations are at Villa Il Cardinale [See Location on the Google Map, just 8 kilometers north of Rome - 20 minutes from Piazza del Popolo].  Most rooms are shared (2 guests per room), which is part of the Retreat experience. [View the Rooms]
    • If you prefer a private room, it can be arranged for an additional fee of USD 1,100.  (very limited availability).  
    • If you prefer to stay at a Hotel, the full Registration Fee applies (no discounts) and all transportation charges to the Villa will be additional. 
  4. Other Considerations:
    • Advance notice is requested for dietary requirements and transportation needs.  All transportation expenses are paid separately.  
    • The Monday, October 9th optional program in Rome must be booked separately.
    • You must make your own flight arrangements and notify the organizer for arrival pick-up at the airport, if required.

Once in a Lifetime: A Master Class with Richard Saul Wurman, the legendary founder of the TED Conferences

  • Richard Saul Wurman has written, designed and published 90 books on wildly divergent topics. Two of these are the notebooks and drawings of architect Louis I. Kahn (1963) and What Will Be Has Always Been (1986), a seminal collection of Kahn’s words. Wurman chaired the IDCA Conference in 1972, the First Federal Design assembly in 1973, and the annual AIA Conference in 1976.
  • Wurman received both his M. Arch. & B. Arch. degrees from the University of Pennsylvania, from where he graduated in 1959 with the highest honors, and was awarded the Arthur Spayed Brooks Gold Medal. He has been awarded several honorary doctorates, Graham Fellowships, a Guggenheim and numerous grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, as well as being the Distinguished Professor of the Practice at Northeastern University. He is the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Smithsonian, Cooper-Hewitt Museum. Wurman has also been awarded the Annual Gold Medal in Discourse from Trinity College, Dublin, a Gold Medal from AIGA and Boston Science Museum’s 50th Annual Bradford Washburn Award. He is also a Fellow of the AIA and in the Art Director’s Club Hall of Fame.
  • Wurman created and chaired the TED conference from 1984 thru 2002, the TEDMED conference from 1995 to 2010, as well as the e.g. and WWW conference. His current projects include Urban Observatory and his newest book, UnderstandingUnderstanding- a journey through the myriad ways that he and his many muses have created their own idiosyncratic manners of understanding.   • Wurman lives in Golden Beach, FL with his wife, novelist Gloria Nagy, and their three yellow labs, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
